Heading to West Oakland BART Station:
We planned to go on to the West Oakland BART, since many of the people we had talked to so far referred to this as an important West Oakland landmark. And its name alone indicates some kind of official demarcation.

As we rode west on 8th street, we noticed that the streets felt relatively desolate and empty. Hardly anyone was walking around. We saw a few people working in their yards and a clump of people standing outside of a corner store. The architecture was an awkward mix of urban styles: Victorians, suburban-scale 1970's strip mall and wide boulevards, row block-style 'projects' surrounding about 4 high-rise buildings and new sheetrock row houses near BART. Check out flick'r to see more images from our ride.
